Sometimes it can be extremely difficult to keep yourself motivated especially if you are a Mumpreneur/ solopreneur who is working in isolation. When you are motivated your performance will be better and you will be more productive in your work. However it is only natural that you may occasionally experience a slump and need a boost to regain your normal levels of motivation.
My top tips on how to stay motivated when you are going through a period of low motivation are as follows;
1. Stay Focused
Have a clear vision of what it is you are hoping to achieve and keep this vision at the forefront of all you are doing to help you maintain your focus. Outline your mission with a clear set of objectives on how and when you are going to undertake them. Having this clear plan will help you to avoid spending precious time on irrelevant activities which may prevent you from achieving your goal. Keep things in perspective and remind yourself of your “why,” the purpose for which you do what you do, this will also help you to maintain your focus and remain motivated to take action.
2. Planning – create your own blueprint for success
What is your game plan and how do you aim to achieve your goal? Once you have identified your goal you need to put in place the strategies which you will follow to achieve it. Have a detailed plan that identifies each step you need to take and enables you to chart your progress. Break the steps down into realistic, bite size pieces which are easily achievable. Being this organised will help you to remain focused, keep control over deadlines and work in a more effective manner. This sense of control will boost your confidence and keep you motivated.
3. Reward and celebrate yourself
Irrespective of how big or small the achievement may be celebrate and reward yourself for it. Pre-plan how and when you will reward yourself to serve as an incentive. Having something to look forward to will help build enthusiasm and keep you on track. Celebrate yourself for your successes, give yourself a pat on the back and congratulate yourself on a job well done.
4. Commit yourself to excellence
Perseverance and hard work are major contributors to success, the fulfilment felt with success will boost your performance and compel you to maintain the momentum. Commit yourself to working to the best of your ability within the time you have, using the resources available. Putting pride in your work will boost your performance, confidence and self-respect which will also increase your motivation. When you are working to the best of your abilities chances are you will achieve and in some cases exceed the targets you set for yourself. The feelings of successfully meeting your goals will motivate you to work even harder.
5. Think positive thoughts
Surround yourself with positive people who will inspire you to stay on track. Eliminate negative thoughts as they only serve to drain your energy and slow down your progress. Remain focused on what’s working well, start each day by speaking positive words and focusing on your strong points. Remind yourself just how awesome you already are and how amazing you will become.
